Green propulsion all ready to go for mission “Gaganyaan” , says ISRO
The Indian Space Research Organisation is a national agency of space in the Indian Republic.ISRO has its headquarters in Bengaluru. Also it’s an agency
that operates under DoS-Department of space which is directly controlled by the Prime minister of the nation. while.
ISRO is the major agency that has its base in India that perform tasks that are related to applications based on space, explorations of space and developments of the technologies.
ISRO holds its remarkable position with its irreplacable contributions to the whole nation’s developments in the area of space, technology, and other areas of research.
India's first satellite named Aryabhata, was build by ISRO, which was launched initially by Russia on 19 April 1975.It was named after the renowned mathematician Aryabhata.
Rohini was the first satellite to be placed in orbit in
1980 by an Indian-made launch vehicle,SLV3
ISRO subsequently developed several other rockets notably two rockets including
the PSLV -POLAR SATELLITE LAUNCH VEHICLE.It was for launching
satellites into into the polar orbits and the GSLV-GEOSYNCHRONOUS
SATELLITE LAUNCH VEHICLE. Which was for launching satellites into the
geostationary orbits These rockets have also launched numerous communication
satellites and Earth Observation satellite.
GAGAN and IRNSS are two navigation satellite systems that have been extended.
In the year 2014, January ISRO developed a CE-7.5,an Indigenous Cryogenic rocket engine to power the upper stage of its GSLV Mk-2 launch vehicle.
A very eminent Indian space scientist KAILASAVADIVOO SIVAN who was born in April14,1957,
previously served as the Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and the Liquid Propulsion
Systems Centre ,who is currently the Secretary and ex-officio chairman of the Indian Space
Research Organisation and Space Commission.He has made significant contributions to the entire nation's
space development programs and innovations.
Sivan built on the design and development of the launch vehicles for ISRO -Indian Space
Research Organisation. Sivan also joined ISRO in 1982 with an aim to participate on the PSLV-POLAR SATELLITE LAUNCH VEHICLE Project and it turned out to be a great success.
He was announced as the director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Center of ISRO in 2nd July
2014.Acknowleging his deeds of great implications he was appointed as the Director of Vikram
Sarabhai Space Centre on June 1,2015.
Kailasavadivoo Sivan was appointed as the chief of ISRO by January 2018.In his
chairmanship,Chandrayan 2 was launched by ISRO which was the second mission to the moon
on July 22, 2019 which was evidently was a chequered mission that gained a lot if appreciation
all around the world.
ISRO leads in making eco-friendly projects ,making environment protection one among it’s major objectives .It works in green fuels like hydrogen peroxide for rockets and other mechines
.As the chairman stated that with the replacement of hazardous fuels by non-hazardous as well as environment friendly fuels for our rockets and satellites, ISRO aims to go green. He also added
that he was looking forward at the green propulsion by hydrogen peroxide in its rocket that would take Indians into space under the mission, ‘Gaganyaan’. Another milestone towards this achievement would be another green fuel – LOX / Methane – liquid oxygen as oxidizer and methane as fuel was developed by ISRO in its innovative Inventions.
Kailasavadivoo Sivan said that Green Technology can be adopted and used in every stage of rocket or a satellite.
All these green projects and measures are to reduce the pollution and various polluting agents in
the coming future projects of ISRO.
Green propulsion or green propellant is an integral element of space research. It is essential to
speed up the spacecraft and satellite. Chief of ISRO ,K Sivan proclaimed that “India is focusing
on economic development. It needs to ensure that environmental damage is limited by adopting
environmentally friendly green technology. Hence ISRO is developing green propellants for
manned space flight missions. In future it can be implemented at all levels in all missions.” All
these measures are to guarantee minimum damage to the environment and all the creatures
inhibiting the Earth.
By December 2021,ISRO have planned to launch its very first manned space flight mission
‘Gaganyaan’.But earlier this month, ISRO detected an obstacle and indicated that it could lag by
a year due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ISRO chief addressed the students
digitally, that you can fail, but each failure will teach a useful lesson. He also added that in our next PSLV launch, there will be satellites of start-up agencies
Gaganyaan is the first human spaceflight mission of India, has been designed to
contain and carry three Indian astronauts to the low orbit of the Earth that is an
orbit of 2,000km or less that too for a period of five to seven days.
Before the first unmanned flight was developed by ISRO ,it has to complete at
least three major tests they are :
1)an air drop test that is basically for the parachute system that will indicates
it’s ability to recover an orbiting space capsule successfully
2)a flight of the test vehicle
3) An abort test to display the escape of the crew in time of an emergency at
the launch pad.
Indian space research organisation has also shortlisted six experiments to ensure its
efficiency when the mission is carried out in space aboard the first unmanned flight
under the Gaganyaan mission.
This incorporates four biological experiments they are– a study on changes in
kidney stone formation in drosophila melanogaster , the study of SIRT1 gene in it,
microbial contamination, and co-crystallisation under microgravity conditions.
Nair said about Gaganyaan mission that it will be the first human spaceflight
mission developed by ISRO, which will be broadened to the exploration of other
planets which will also include the moon in the future. For this, Isro will partner
with the industry and academia to develop technologies such as construction in
space, tele-robotics and artificial intelligence.
As we are battling with the economic crisis of the pandemic, these new eco-
friendly developments are conspicuously making our nation's progress by ensuring
better living conditions by reducing pollution and sources of pollutants.
